Welcome back to Kent and Sussex Walks. Today we visited Chipstead for a lovely little walk that starts and finishes at the outdoor cafe Eat N Mess. This is such a cool little cafe with lots of local and natural ingredients and we couldn’t wait to try it out. We parked up in the cafe car park and set off down the main road.
The first section of the road doesn’t have a pavement but you’re only on it for around 50 feet and there’s just enough to get off the road if you hear a car coming. Once you’re off the road this walk is road free until the end. The first half of this walk is a steady uphill that will really warm you up which was so good for us as it was a bitterly cold day with an icy breeze. On the way up the hill we passed through a sheep field and were so blessed to see some huge birds of prey hovering overhead that we later found out to be red kites!
The second half of the walk is much less challenging and we were lucky to have some tree cover from the wind. We walked through a little woodland and then passed a church before a long straight path back to the cafe.
Eat N Mess was such a good find. It had a great selection of really popular cakes and the cinnamon bun was delicious. They have a really eco-friendly focus with no single-use plastics that we loved. We had some healthy food and Chloe warmed up with a coffee and wrapped herself up in one of their nice blankets. Tristan’s salmon and halloumi pot with fresh sauerkraut was ridiculously tasty too.
