Welcome back to Kent and Sussex walks! We fancied our pub stop halfway today so we found this great little parking spot in Hartfield, strapped on our walking boots and headed off in search of the Dorset Arms pub. A stretch of quiet road starts this one off before a slightly boggy section opens out to a large field with great vantage over the landscape. Buckhurst Estate takes up a big portion of this walk, that makes for easy walking on well established paths.
The Dorset arms is a super spot to stop in! A really great vibe in here and super busy which is so good to see. There were lovely decorations up and we stopped in for a couple of hot coffees. This pub has apparently been in the family since 1595 which is some going. They’ve got a great garden and from the spring they do classic car nights too! They source lots of local ingredients so we’ll have to come back for a bit of food next time!
Now we’re no ornithologists but we think we clocked a couple of red kites hovering overheard on the way back to the car. And we saw a heron taking off nearby the lake too which was fantastic! They’re big old birds for sure.
