Welcome back to Kent and Sussex walks! Today we walked on the Ashdown forest and stopped in halfway at Duddleswell tea room, which didn’t disappoint!
Our friend Isobel came on this walk with us; so after picking her up from the local train station we drove to and parked up in Fairwarp, where there is much better parking than you’ll find at Duddleswell tea room, and we set off down the track.
The parking is next to the Foresters Arms which we have heard is also a great joint, so there’s an option to stop in there for a meal if you’d prefer at the end of the walk.
We were blessed with some nice weather and the walk is superb taking you through woodlands and field with sheep and all the delights of the British spring time. There are a few hills but not too much mud, and the footpath leads you right to the rear of the tea room with no need to walk on the road.
Duddleswell Tea Room is a lovely little spot and with new owners the opening times are nice and consistent! They served us up breakfast which was good of them considering we were after hours and we had some lush smoked trout with cream cheese and Isobel had a big slice of frittata which looked amazing. Still hungry afterwards we got a couple of scones afterward to finish off! What could be better on a sunny weekend?!
The footpath back to the car wasn’t too long and there would rogue sheep roaming the fields and woodland. We lost the track at one point too but eventually made it safely back to the car!
So if you’d like to do this walk the link to the OS Maps for more information! See you in the next one!
