Welcome back to Kent and Sussex walks!
Off the line vineyard was our destination today which sits in between hellingly and horam. We arrived slightly too early though and the gates were still shut so we found a great alternative parking spot and stopped in at the vineyard half way round our walk instead.
Off the line vineyard has direct access from the cuckoo trial and there were lots of people arriving on foot and by bicycle which was great to see. Can’t get too merry if you drive here of course so we don’t blame them.
The walk to the vineyard was really lovely, through open fields and woodlands. There was one small stream crossing which was tricky to get across whilst trying to keep a baby asleep, it involved a couple of foot drop and a brick causeway, but luckily we made it across without Bodhi waking. The cuckoo trail section of this walk is an old railway line so nice an flat. And then a short section through the grape vines takes you to off the line vineyard.
Off The Line was superb and definitely deserves its 4.8 star rating on Google. The outdoor area is lovely to sit out at and we had some live jazz music playing in the background too, one of those perfect warm sunny afternoons in England. We got a wine flight to share and there is a great translucent natural red wine and a traditional method sparkling wine too! They offer cheese and charcuterie boards here as well as pizza, it all looked unreal and tasted as good as it looked.
We saved the shorter half of the walk to get back to the car which was just as well, as we were both exhausted but was useful to burn off some of the food!
So if you’d like to do this walk the link for the OS map is below. See you in the next one!
