Hey guys and welcome back to Kent and Sussex Walks!
It was Tristan’s birthday on the weekend so we went for an amazing high-end picnic at Birchden Vineyard in Groombridge.
This place is a real hidden gem. It wouldn’t have felt right to eat this much food without burning some calories off first so we did a little one-hour walk around Harrison’s Rocks in Groombridge beforehand. After parking up it’s just a short walk down the road before turning onto a footpath.
This walk takes you through a field and then into Birchden Wood. Before long there’s an amazing viewpoint looking over Harrison’s Rocks and through the trees where you can see open fields as well as the Spa Valley Railway line. We’re hoping for a good shot of the steam train but no such luck today. This walk is really easy at only one hour long and it’s relatively flat as well. There’s just one stile and two gates so perfect for kids.
This picnic was so epic. You get walked down with your hamper past the vineyards to an incredibly well manicured lake setting. The food is so good too, lots of different bits with cured meats, cheese and homemade hummus. Tristan decided to go wild and got an amazing wine tasting selection as a birthday treat and Chloe opted for Birchden’s fresh apple juice. We seldom find experiences as perfect as this in the UK and it’s well priced too.
