Welcome back to Kent and Sussex Walks. Today for our walk we drove to Heathfield down a quiet back lane and parked up at The Gun, a beautiful 15th century pub. We were really hungry today but decided to conquer an epic two-hour walk first to work up a decent appetite. We crossed over the road and walked down the long farm track before walking through a busy riding school with loads of horses trotting about.
We felt too sneaky taking videos of the horses with so many people about so you’ll have to give the walk a go yourself if you want to see them. We had such delightful weather and an interesting mix of meadows and woodland as well as the most incredible field of inflorescent buttercups. We were lucky enough to see lambs and cows though our attempts to lure them over for a stroke were in vain. We stumbled across a brilliant swing and had to give it a go. It was the best one yet.
After two hours the walk ends straight into the beer garden of the pub. The Gun has such a beautiful garden as well as an orangery with bifold doors opening onto the decking, perfect on a daylight today. We sat out in the sunshine and both enjoyed a hearty meal.
Tris couldn’t help but get a mixed roast and it was an excellent choice if he says so himself- and Chloe had a solid looking salad with chicken as well as some extra prawns. This walk is dog friendly with a handful of styles and very few road sections. The pub is also dog friendly.
