Welcome back to Kenneth and Sussex Walks. Today we had a birthday meal for my dad, so we chose a destination halfway between all of our homes and ended up in Horam. We parked up at the Cuckoo Cafe and after crossing the road, found ourselves walking down the Cuckoo Trail, the remains of an old railway line. This bit of the trail has just been redone, so it was a lovely bit of smooth tarmac.
We walked down the Cuckoo Trail for a short way before turning off into a sheep field. We crossed lots of little rivers using the foot bridges provided, then ended up walking through Hidden Spring Vineyard. If you planned it well enough, you could book a tasting room as we walked right past it. Maybe we’ll do a vineyard tour walk soon. We love a vineyard after our recent trip to South Africa. A final stretch of the Cuckoo Trail ends the walk and we arrived at the Cuckoo Cafe for our family lunch.
The rest of my family was already there and in high spirit and we sat down for a great bit of lunch. This cafe is more of a brunchy type place, with smaller plates, but the prices were very good. My smoked salmon breakfast was great and there were no complaints.
